KATHMANDU, July 13: In its second ruling in multimillionaire Sudan scam, Special Court on Wednesday sent AIG Jitendra Bahadur Bista, an accused of the scam, to Dilibazaar jail after he failed to deposit bail amount of Rs 10 million. Earlier on Sunday, the court sent DSP Dinesh KC to judicial custody after he failed to post bail amount of Rs 3.5 million. KC was released on Tuesday after he deposited the sought bail amount.


AIG Bista and DSP KC along with other 32 individuals have been accused of million rupee embezzlement in the process of procuring armored personnel carriers (APCs) and other logistics for Nepali peacekeepers deployed in Darfur, Sudan, a charge sheet filed by Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on June 8 states.

The national anti-graft body concluded that about Rs 290 million was embezzled while procuring and supplying the obsolete and sub-standard APCs.

The commission has indicted three former police chiefs, two incumbent AIGs, three former AIGs, two incumbent DIGs, three former DIGs, six incumbent SSPs, one former SSP, seven incumbent SPs, three DSPs, one former DSP and three inspectors in the charge sheet.

KATHMANDU, July 13: The Supreme Court annulled stay order against promotion of Nepal Police Additional Inspector General (AIG) Kuber Singh Rana paving way for him to assume duty. The SC however ordered investigation into allegation of human rights violations against him.


On July 5, the SC had stayed the promotion of Rana saying that allegations against him were serious. The court had also barred Rana from dispensing his duties in the capacity of AIG while seeking written clarifications from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Nepal Police headquarters, AIG Rana, and Public Service Commission (PSC).

Lawyer Sunil Ranjan Singh had filed a writ petition demanding stay of Rana�s promotion on two grounds -- for his alleged involvement in human rights violations and showing procedural flaws in the promotion process as pointed out by the PSC.

KATHMANDU, July 13: Gold price touched an all time high of Rs 43,500 per tola (11.664 grams) in the domestic market on Wednesday, smashing the previous high of Rs 43,300 recorded on June 23. The price of the yellow metal increased by Rs 400 per tola from Rs 43,100 per tola recorded on Tuesday.


According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers� Association (Negosida), gold price increased in the domestic market due to weakening US dollar as well as downturn in global stock market.

Price of gold has been increasing since last Wednesday.

�Rise in crude prices in international market on the day is also one of the reasons behind surge in gold prices in the domestic market," said Tej Ratna Shakya, president of the Negosida.

The price of silver on the other hand remained unchanged at Rs 1,030 per tola on the day. Silver has not gained value since the last hike on July 8.
